In the many decades I’ve been alive on this planet, it’s generally been the case that here in the UK after a general election, the incoming government enjoys a bit of a honeymoon period.
As an anarchist, I have a naturally suspicious view of all politicians. And was not totally gobsmacked by the Starmer alarmerama. I have a deep suspicion that a re-run is unlikely to provide a stunning change from capitalism to er........socialism? marxism?anarchism(definitely NOT)....., so I'm not signing the fu...sorry, bloody thing. I do vote, on the basis of damage limitation, or scrawl ' no worthwhile candidate' in red ink across the ballot paper (red ink means it's noticed.)
I could not agree more. James Corbett recently did a 3-part deep dive into Thiel and his behind-the-scenes political machinations. And there is a petition against Palantir's involvement in the NHS. https://nopalantir.org.uk/
Not sure how effective it will be, but it's probably more genuine than the "Call a General Election" one.
Well said. In the run-up to the election I watched with amazement as people who were strongly opposed to the lockdowns and wider Covid response argued that the Tories should be voted back in ... this from seasoned political types such as Toby Young and Peter Hitchens. Now my impression is that the less politically informed are hoping Reform will be their saviour ... and the moment Trump got in some were even hoping he would rescue Little Britain! Bottom line I think is that many people are still so invested in the current system they can't or won't think outside it, forgetting of course that democracy is a new system and not the last word on the best form of governance for humans. More disillusion is needed!
