a silly or stupid person:
What did you do that for, you plonker?
'Calling truth to power' is the fundamental mission for this blog. More often than not, it's a serious and sometimes grim business. However, what authority hates above anything else is becoming an object of ridicule when a fed up populace takes the piss out of their arrogance and pretensions. That's the motive for having the 'plonker/s of the year' award - to rip the piss out of the arrogant (and all too often, inept) bastards who presume to rule over us.
Before we relocated to Keynsham, in our previous guise as The Thurrock and Basildon Heckler, we had an annual tradition of making a 'plonker/s of the year' award to a local council or agency that had displayed a combination of staggering ineptitude combined with pig headed arrogance. This was how we put out the shortlist for people to comment upon and send in their suggestions for the award in 2021: PLONKER(S) OF THE YEAR – a provisional shortlist:) 2.11.21. This was how we announced the 'winner' of the award towards the end of 2021: Yet again, the plonker(s) of the year award goes to… 11.12.21.
We've been living in Keynsham for sixteen months now, and feel that we're developing our understanding of what's happening across the region. As we're coming towards the end of the year, we want to start thinking about the 'plonker/s of the year' award. We've already got more than a few ideas as to who would be a suitable recipient or indeed, recipients. The range of candidates includes the local councils in the region, the West of England Combined Authority, utility providers, public transport operators, developers, local media outlets (mainstream, independent and so called 'alternative') and last but by no means least, so called charities who have far too close a relationship with local authorities. We are indeed, spoilt for choice:)
We won't reveal our choice of candidates for 'plonker/s of the year' just yet because what we want to do is throw this open to residents in Bath & North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Bristol and North Somerset to make their suggestions. Feel free to send in your nomination, your justification for it plus any supporting links and documentation. Given what could be revealed, we will obviously respect people's wish to remain anonymous should they feel that's necessary.
Depending on what kind of response we get, come early December, we may publish a shortlist of suitable candidates. Obviously, we'll do so in a way that doesn't get us sued for libel, slander or defamation!
