Keeping an eye on the tensions...

The situation in the Essex commuter town of Epping with protests against the housing of asylum seekers at The Bell Hotel, remains tense. This is one of the many reports in the media about what’s been happening: TURNING SOUR Epping Clashes Escalate as Locals Turn on Rioters Targeting Migrant Hotel - UKNIP | 21.7.25. It’s interesting to note that some of the locals, while they do have concerns about the housing of asylum seekers at the hotel, are also getting mightily pissed off with the behaviour of some of the protesters. I’m mentioning this just to add a little bit of nuance...

Things look like they could escalate next Sunday (27.7) with a certain grifter allegedly expressing interest in attending a protest in the town, along with his supporters: PAYING EPPING A VISIT Tommy Robinson Declares Intent to Join Upcoming Epping Protest on July 27 - UKNIP | 21.7.25. Whether he will follow through with this or, as has been indicated by some sources, be already changing his mind, remains to be seen. Suffice to say, the mere threat of his attendance has galvanised the likes of Stand Up To Racism and others of their ilk to start organising a counter protest. A Pavlovian response and a classic example of parachuting in to make a bad situation even worse.

In the previous post – FAO - rage baiters, divide and rule merchants and, useful idiots 19.7.25 – I wrote that I didn’t really want to get drawn into commenting too deeply on this situation for the moment. After next Sunday has passed, when the fallout from whatever may happen has settled, and a picture starts to emerge of whatever measures may be in store to contain further disorder across the country, plus the inevitable boost there will be to the discussion about digital ID, that will possibly be the time for some in depth analysis.

All I really want to do in the interim is issue some brief warnings about where all of this appears to be heading. Namely, more clamp downs on protests, regardless of where they could be placed on the political spectrum, and also, those that can’t be placed anywhere on the spectrum. That means letting situations ‘develop’ to the point that vast swathes of the population are clamouring for the imposition of order to restore calm – or at least, an illusion of calm. The big prize for the powers that be will be a much wider acceptance of digital ID – ostensibly to ‘deal with’ illegal migration. It just needs some high profile useful idiots to support, echo and disseminate the calls for these measures, and it’s job done.

So, there has been, and will continue to be, a lot of ‘Let It Happen On Purpose’ and ‘Make It Happen On Purpose’ going on. There will be ‘agitators’, ‘provocateurs’ and various arms length state assets, online and on the streets, busy stirring things up...on all sides. There will also be disinformation, misinformation and plenty of rage baiting, race baiting and fear mongering. It’s going to be a right shitshow. Meanwhile, the concerns of the locals will be sidelined because, at this point, they will have served their purpose in ushering in the broader agenda.

Inevitably, I’ll be obliged to comment further on this situation. The point that needs to be noted is that the focus will be on where all of this is leading and how much of it is scripted and orchestrated. I’ll leave the discussion about asylum seekers and immigration policy to others to deal with. In the interim, I’d like to leave you with this poem about the prevailing atmosphere in the country:
